Welcome to the home page for the Cornell University Laboratory for Molecular Typing
In 2001 The Laboratory for Molecular Typing came under the direction of Prof. Martin Wiedmann and continues to be affiliated with the Center for Advanced Technology BioResource Center. The Laboratory for Molecular Typing was established in 1996 by Prof. Carl A. Batt. It is a fee-for-service facility within the New York State College of Agricultural and Life Sciences at Cornell University and available to all users including those from outside the university and outside New York state. When requested we operate under a strict confidentiality policy. We offer a variety of technologies to identify and characterize microorganisms to the genus, species and subspecies level. The core instrumentation for molecular typing of bacteria is the Riboprinter® Microbial Identification System from Qualicon (subsidiary of DuPont) which generates very precise and highly diagnostic genetic fingerprints for bacteria. We also offer typing by Pulsed Field Gel Electrophoresis (PFGE). For more detailed information, please select one of the links below.
